THE EFFECT OF SUPPLEMENTATION Of EM4 LIQUID PROBIOTIC ON PERFORMANCE OF LOCAL MALE SHEEPS

Sheeps ration consisted of concentrates and forage (grasses). Due to limited availability of the grasses during the dry season, rice straw camuxouly used. The digestibility of rice straw is low and it must be improved. Thus it is necessary to increase the digestibility. One of feed additive that can be used is EM4 liquid probiotic, which contains most of the photosynthetic bacteria (Rhodopseudomonas spp), lactic acid bacteria (Lactobasillus spp), yeast (Saccharomyces spp), etc. that are beneficial for growth and livestock production.
This study aimed to find out the effect of probiotic supplementation (EM4) on performance of local male sheeps. This research was conducted for eight weeks, started on September 28 to November 22, 2009 at Animal Housing Experiment, Jatikuwung, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry, Sebelas Maret University. The experiment used 12 local male sheeps with average body weight 11.28 + 1.17 kg. The concentrate used was BC 132 produced by PT. Nutrifeed Puspitasari and EM4 liquid probiotic produced by PT. Songgolangit Persada
The difference seen in the provision of EM4 with each dose of treatment, that was P0 : (basic ration + 0 ml EM4), P1 : (basic ration + 0.5 ml EM4), P2 : (basic ration EM4 + 1 ml) and P3 : (basic ration + 1.5 ml EM4) . The parameters observed were feed consumption, average daily gain (ADG), feed conversion and feed cost per gain.
The results of this research showed that are 385.07; 360.30; 388.71 and 388.84 grams / head / day, average daily gain are 57.14 ; 63.49; 67.46 and 69.05 grams / head / day, feed conversion are 6.75; 6.31; 6.48 and 6.35; and feed cost per gain are Rp. 5074.70/ kg; Rp 4895.08/ kg; Rp. 5178.52 / kg and Rp. 5228.55/ kg.
Analysed of variance for feed consumption, feed conversion and analysis of covariance for average daily gain from the treatments, were nonsignificantly.
EM4 liquid probiotic supplementation levels up to 1.5 ml did not cause effect on performances (feed intake, average daily gain, feed conversion, but based on descriptive analysis of feed cost per gain the most efficient in treatments level added of 0,5 ml EM4)
